The trentahen guide to Halloween nightlife

There comes a point in life when the thought of partying until 4 AM sounds exciting, but the thought of getting eight hours of sleep sounds even better. Welcome to your 30s, or as Filipinos on the internet like to call it, your trentahen era.

Back in college, going out meant squeezing into crowded bars, surviving on questionable amounts of alcohol, and somehow making it home just in time for sunrise. These days, the priorities have shifted. A comfortable bed, good food, and a reasonable amount of sleep are suddenly just as appealing as a night out.

But turning 30 doesn't mean retiring from the nightlife scene. In fact, Halloween in Poblacion, Makati, can still be just as fun, especially when you know how to party smarter.

Here are eight ways to survive (and actually enjoy) Halloween in Poblacion when you're in your 30s.

1. Make a staycation out of it

Remember when booking a hotel after a night out seemed like an unnecessary expense? In your 30s, it starts looking like one of the best decisions you can make. Instead of worrying about the long journey home or unpredictable ride-hailing prices, why not turn Halloween into a proper staycation?

Berjaya Makati Hotel offers a convenient way to enjoy Poblacion's nightlife without worrying about getting home. Spend the afternoon relaxing, get ready without rushing, enjoy the festivities, and return to a comfortable room whenever you're done. Better yet, they've even got breakfast covered with their popular breakfast buffet, giving you something delicious to look forward to the morning after.

At this age, a Halloween celebration that comes with a good night's sleep feels like a luxury worth having.

2. Find a party that matches your age and energy

Not every Halloween party needs to involve staying out until sunrise. Sometimes, you just want good music, a fun crowd, and the option to be home before midnight.

That's exactly the idea behind TRENTAHIN: HOME BY 12MN, which brings its first Halloween edition to The Fun Roof in Poblacion on October 31. Inspired by Filipino horror classics like Shake, Rattle & Roll and Magandang Gabi... Bayan, the party combines nostalgic childhood scares with throwback hits from the '90s and 2000s, featuring DJ Mars Miranda.

The celebration starts at 8 PM, with a ₱500 entrance fee inclusive of one drink. While advance tables are fully booked, walk-ins are still welcome subject to capacity. And true to its name, TRENTAHIN is designed for those who want to enjoy a full night out without having to wait until midnight for the fun to begin.

3. Bring sunglasses. Yes, even at night.

It might sound ridiculous, but sunglasses have become something of a nightlife essential. Beyond completing an outfit, they're also useful when you're dealing with bright strobe lights, flashing cameras, and the occasional moment when you just want to look mysterious without putting in much effort.

Besides, Halloween is one of the few nights when you can wear something completely outrageous and nobody questions it. If you're going to be extra, you might as well commit.

4. Wear comfortable shoes.

There was a time when suffering through an entire night in uncomfortable footwear seemed like a reasonable price to pay for looking good. Thankfully, your 30s come with a little more wisdom.

Poblacion is best explored on foot, especially during Halloween when the streets fill with partygoers hopping between bars and restaurants. Between standing in lines, walking around, and dancing, your feet will probably be doing more work than you originally planned.

Choose footwear that complements your costume without making you regret every step.

Sneakers, comfortable boots, or flats can look just as good when styled properly. Your feet will thank you the following morning.

5. Make your Halloween drinks worth it (with free makeup!)

Being in your trentahin era means appreciating a good deal just as much as a good cocktail. This Halloween, Dazzle Me is giving Poblacion partygoers another reason to make a pit stop with its Dazzle & Treat Year 4 campaign, happening October 30–31, 2026.

Coffee lovers can also check out its Berry Coco Blush Latte (₱200). Meanwhile, Polilya offers The Glow-Up (₱450), a tropical tequila and mezcal cocktail paired with a free Prime + Set Setting Spray, while Atmosfera serves Pink Mischief (₱250), a strawberry vodka cocktail that comes with a free SuPore-fine Hydra Grip Makeup Primer.

6. Normalize ordering juice instead of alcohol

One of the best things about getting older is realizing that you don't actually have to drink alcohol to enjoy a night out.

Gone are the days when every round of drinks needed to be followed by another. Sometimes, a mocktail, juice, soda, or even a glass of water is exactly what you want, and that's perfectly fine.

You can still dance, socialize, and enjoy Halloween without waking up the next day feeling like you've made several questionable life decisions. There's something refreshing about knowing your limits and sticking to them, even when everyone else is ordering another round.

7. Give yourself permission to go home early

Here's a little secret: you don't have to stay until the party ends.

In your early 20s, leaving before midnight might have felt like missing out on something important. By your 30s, you've probably realized that the best part of a night out isn't necessarily the last hour.

Sometimes, you've already danced to your favorite songs, caught up with your friends, taken your Halloween photos, and had enough excitement for one evening. And that's okay.

The beauty of partying in your 30s is having the confidence to decide when you've had enough. If you're tired, go home. If you're still having fun, stay a little longer. The important thing is that you're enjoying yourself rather than forcing yourself to keep up.

8. Make time for a proper meal at Ziggurat

If there's one thing that becomes increasingly important in your 30s, it's making sure you've actually eaten something substantial before or after a night out.

Fortunately, Poblacion isn't just known for its bars. The neighborhood also has plenty of interesting restaurants worth visiting, including Ziggurat Cuisine, a long-standing dining spot known for its Middle Eastern, Indian, and Mediterranean-inspired dishes.

Instead of surviving the evening on bar snacks alone, make time to sit down, enjoy a proper meal, and catch up with your friends. Whether it's dinner before heading to a Halloween party or a food stop after a long evening, eating well is part of the experience.

Because at this point in life, a memorable dinner can be just as exciting as the party itself.

Halloween hits different in your 30s

Being in your 30s doesn't mean you've forgotten how to party. You just know what you like, what you're willing to tolerate, and when it's time to call it a night.

Maybe your Halloween now involves a hotel stay, a good dinner, comfortable shoes, and heading back before sunrise. Or maybe you're still the last person on the dance floor.

Either way, the trentahen era isn't about getting old. It's about knowing how to have fun on your own terms.

And honestly, that's a pretty good way to celebrate Halloween.
