There are a lot of fitness watches out there, and after trying different wearables, we’ve realized that the most expensive or feature-packed option is not automatically the right one for everyone.

Some people want maps, training data and serious sports features. Others just want their steps and heart rate without spending too much. And some would rather track their recovery without another screen sending notifications all day.

Here are five fitness watches worth checking out, depending on what you actually need.

1. Garmin fēnix 8 Pro AMOLED: For the Serious Athlete

Garmin's newest fēnix 9 is for the person who wants their watch to keep up with a genuinely active lifestyle.

The multisport GPS smartwatch comes with a bright AMOLED display, sapphire lens and titanium bezel, plus built-in routable maps and advanced training features. New stamina zones and a stamina curve help users better understand how their endurance changes over time, while Garmin Epic lets you group multiple activities into one story inside Garmin Connect. It also comes in 43mm, 47mm and 51mm sizes.

The largest model can get up to 29 days of battery life in smartwatch mode, making it especially useful for people who train frequently or simply do not want to charge their watch every night.

For runners, there is also a pretty timely reason to put it to work: the Garmin Run Marathon Series Philippines is happening on October 25, 2026 at the SM MOA Complex, with 5K, 10K and 21K distances.

Shine tip: Planning to join? Use code SHINE200OFF when you register for the Garmin Run.

Best for: Serious runners, multisport athletes and anyone who genuinely loves looking at their training data.

2. HUAWEI WATCH FIT 5: For Fitness Tracking Without the Intimidation

The HUAWEI WATCH FIT 5 sits in that sweet spot between a full smartwatch and an approachable fitness tracker.

It has a 1.82-inch AMOLED display, built-in dual-band GNSS, more than 100 workout modes and an optical heart-rate sensor. It also weighs only around 27 grams without the strap and can last up to seven days with typical use.

One thing that genuinely impressed us: we wore the WATCH FIT 5 alongside a hospital grade heart-rate monitor, and the heart-rate readings we saw were the same. Of course, that's our own informal side-by-side experience rather than a clinical accuracy test, but it made the watch feel much more dependable during actual training.

It also works with both Android and iOS, making it less ecosystem-dependent than some smartwatches.

Best for: Everyday fitness, casual runners and people who want a lightweight smartwatch with plenty of training features.

3. Decathlon Sports Watch: For the Budget-Conscious Beginner

You do not need to spend tens of thousands of pesos just to start tracking your workouts.

A Decathlon sports watch is one of the most approachable places to start, especially if your priorities are straightforward: timing workouts, tracking runs and keeping an eye on basic training data.

Decathlon's KIPRUN GPS watch line, for example, has offered GPS-based tracking, workout programming and activity data designed specifically around running and multisport use.

The biggest appeal, though, is accessibility. Decathlon is already a familiar stop for affordable sports gear, so this makes sense for someone building their fitness setup without immediately committing to a premium smartwatch.

Best for: Beginners, students, casual runners and anyone who wants an affordable entry point into fitness tracking.

4. Apple Watch: For People Already in the Apple Ecosystem

Sometimes the obvious choice is obvious for a reason.

If you already use an iPhone, AirPods and other Apple devices, the Apple Watch fits into your daily life almost effortlessly. Your workouts, health information, calls, music and notifications all work together across the ecosystem.

Apple Watch can track heart rate, workouts and fitness trends, while its integration with the iPhone lets workout information move easily between devices. Current models also offer features such as heart-rate zones, training load and sleep tracking.

And with Apple Fitness+ now available in the Philippines, there is even more reason for existing Apple users to keep their fitness data within the same ecosystem.

This isn't necessarily the watch we'd tell everyone to switch ecosystems for. But if you're already firmly in Apple land? It just makes sense.

Best for: iPhone users who want one watch for fitness, health and everyday life.

5. WHOOP: For People Who Don't Want Another Screen

Not everybody wants texts, calls and app notifications following them onto their wrist.

That's exactly why WHOOP stands out.

There is no screen and no stream of notifications. Instead, WHOOP quietly collects data in the background and focuses heavily on things like sleep, strain, stress and recovery. It can also automatically detect activity, so you don't necessarily have to remember to start a workout every time you exercise.

It's a very different experience from a traditional smartwatch. You're wearing it less because you want another device to interact with and more because you want to understand what your body has been doing.

For people already overwhelmed by screens, that may actually be the selling point.

Best for: Recovery-focused athletes, data lovers and anyone who wants fitness tracking without constant notifications.

So, Which Fitness Watch Is for You?

There really isn't one fitness watch that makes sense for everybody.

Go Garmin if your training is serious and you want the data to match. Try the HUAWEI WATCH FIT 5 if you want plenty of fitness features in a lighter, more approachable watch. Look at Decathlon if budget and accessibility matter most. Stick with Apple Watch if your life already runs on Apple. And consider WHOOP if the last thing you need is another glowing screen demanding your attention.

Ultimately, the best fitness watch is the one you'll actually wear. and whose data will actually help you move better.
