A friend recently asked me for restaurant recommendations in Makati. Not just any list, but something specific. Places she could bring her friends to, people flying in from abroad, people who have worked, built their lives, and yes, are a little nakaangat na.

It made me pause for a second. Because there is a difference between recommending somewhere “good” and recommending somewhere that feels right for that kind of moment.

So I made her a list. Just for fun. All places I have actually tried, places I would confidently bring people to. The kind of restaurants where the food is good, the space feels intentional, and the experience quietly says, you’re doing well.

This is that list.

1. The Test Kitchen by Josh Boutwood

📍 Rockwell, Makati

This is what I would recommend when you want something a little more elevated, but still easy to enjoy. It feels thoughtful without being intimidating, which is exactly what you want when hosting. The food leans modern, but nothing feels too complicated or hard to appreciate. It is also a quiet win if you have a The Bistro Group card since you get a discount, which makes the whole experience feel even more worth it.

2. Mamou

📍 Greenbelt / Rockwell

Mamou is always that safe, classic answer. When you do not want to risk anything and just want really good food, this is where you go. The steak is consistently good, the truffle pasta is a favorite for a reason, and the whole experience just feels reliable. It is the kind of place where you know everyone at the table will leave happy.

3. Tiong Bahru Makati

📍 Leviste Street, Makati

💸 PP

This one is such a good find, especially the Leviste branch. The space is big, airy, and calm, which makes it perfect for hosting groups. It feels more put together than your usual casual spot, but you can still keep it under ₱1,000 per head. Also, order the bean sprout dish, it is honestly one of the best things on the menu and something I always go back for.

4. Taiwan Kitchen

📍 Salcedo Village, Makati

💸 P

This is my ultimate favorite. I have probably been here more than ten times, and I still keep coming back. It is simple, affordable, and just really good. The kind of place you bring people to when you want them to enjoy the food without overthinking anything. Also, I love love love the desserts here, it is such an underrated part of the menu.

5. Gogi Many

📍 Poblacion, Makati

💸 P

If you want something more fun and relaxed, this is an easy yes. Gogi Many is affordable samgyup that still feels worth it, especially when you are with a group. Definitely eat here with friends, it is way more fun that way. It is very tipid but masaya, and the kind of place where the energy carries the whole night.

6. Crepe Glazik

📍 Legazpi Village, Makati

💸 P

This is one of those places that focuses on doing one thing well. The crepes are consistently good, whether you go sweet or savory. The gelato here is also really good, amazing flavors especially the mango. If you are ordering, Morlaix is one of the best things to get, and the salads are surprisingly worth trying too.

7. Panco Cafe

Panco sits right in the middle. Affordable, but with an ambiance that feels a little more elevated, which makes it great for brunches or slower catch-ups. Also, the cheesy caldereta is crazy amazing. It is one of those dishes you end up thinking about after.

At the end of the day, being “fancy” is not always about price. It is about intention. It is about choosing places that feel good to be in, where the food holds up, and where the experience matches the moment.

These are the kinds of restaurants you recommend when someone asks you for something a little more put together. Not over the top, not trying too hard, just right.

The kind of places that say, yes, we are doing well.
