Mckenna Grace has been cast as Daphne Blake in Netflix’s upcoming live-action Scooby-Doo series. The casting was confirmed to international outlets, with Grace set to portray a younger version of the iconic character.

This is not her first connection to the franchise. Grace previously voiced young Daphne in the 2020 animated film Scoob!, making this a return to a role she has already stepped into before, this time in live action.

The yet-to-be-titled project will run for eight episodes and will focus on the origin story of Mystery Incorporated. Instead of jumping straight into established dynamics, the series explores how Daphne, Fred Jones, Velma Dinkley, Shaggy Rogers, and Scooby-Doo first met.

What the Series Is About

According to the official logline, the story begins during the group’s final summer at camp. Old friends Shaggy and Daphne become entangled in a mystery involving a lonely Great Dane puppy who may have witnessed a supernatural murder.

They are joined by Velma, described as pragmatic and scientific, and Freddy, the charming new kid in town. As they attempt to solve the case, the mystery pulls them into a darker situation that threatens to expose secrets among the group. The tone suggests a slightly more grounded and suspense-driven take, while still staying rooted in the core idea that has defined Scooby-Doo for decades: a group of teens solving strange and seemingly supernatural crimes together.

What We Know So Far

The series is currently confirmed for eight episodes. Other casting announcements and the official release date have not yet been revealed. Netflix has also not announced a final title for the project.

What is clear is that the platform is leaning into origin storytelling. Instead of reintroducing characters audiences already know in their fully formed versions, this series focuses on how the friendships and dynamics that shaped Mystery Incorporated first began.

For longtime fans, this offers something familiar but slightly reframed. For newer audiences, it creates an accessible entry point into the Scooby-Doo universe. As more details unfold, including additional cast members and a premiere date, the live-action Scooby-Doo series is shaping up to be a straightforward origin story anchored by a recognizable young lead in Mckenna Grace.
