Lil Nas X Returns With a More Personal Side on “World’s Greatest”

Lil Nas X is back with new music, and this time, he is looking inward.

The Grammy-winning artist has released “World’s Greatest,” his first single in a year and a half. The track reflects on how far he has come, while also acknowledging the difficult moments that have been part of the journey.

The song is also deeply connected to his late mother, Tamikia Hill. Lil Nas X introduced the release alongside a voicemail from her, sharing one of the reminders she often gave him: “Walk by faith, not by sight.” He said the phrase has continued to resonate with him as he moves through life.

Written entirely by Lil Nas X and produced by C.WRAY and Steve Rusch, “World’s Greatest” looks back on his path from his early beginnings to becoming one of pop music’s most recognizable names. The song balances vulnerability with a sense of celebration, ultimately focusing on pushing forward even when things get difficult.

Its accompanying music video brings that story to Atlanta, where scenes inspired by his childhood are placed alongside moments from his present-day life. Directed by Phillip Youmans, the video connects the person he was growing up with the artist he has become today.

“World’s Greatest” is Lil Nas X’s first release since March 2025, opening what feels like a more reflective chapter for the artist as he looks back while continuing to move forward.
