What happens when you bring some of Asia's most talented songwriters together for four days? Apparently, you get eight original songs, a few unexpected collaborations, and music that could easily find its way onto international playlists.

The Filipino Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (FILSCAP) held its inaugural Asia Songwriting Master Camp from October 4 to 7, 2026, at Kamana Sanctuary Spa Resort in Subic Bay, bringing together established songwriters from 10 Asian countries.

The experience culminated in a Showcase Night on October 7 at Seda Manila Bay, where the composers presented their creations to record labels, music publishers, and industry representatives.

One of the things I enjoyed most about the showcase was hearing how different each composition turned out. Despite being created within the same four-day camp, every song had its own personality, and I definitely walked away with a few favorites.

"Restart" was easily one of them. Presented in both multilingual and English versions, it showed how different languages could come together beautifully in one song. I really, really liked this one!

Then there was "Mr. Peter Pan," which was honestly amazing. Funny, clever, and very relevant to every stupid man who refuses to grow up. HAHA! It's the kind of song that makes you laugh because you probably know someone who fits the description.

"F Word" was another standout. It had the kind of energy I could imagine a boy band performing, complete with choreography and a really fun stage production.

For anyone who wants to feel sad, cry, and then feel even sadder, there's "This Is How You Take Care of Her." This one was crazy emotional, and I could already imagine it becoming someone's go-to heartbreak song.

And finally, "Runnin'." I loved this! The catchy, repeated running theme was already good, but the rap section made it even better. It was easily one of the performances that stuck with me.

The showcase also featured "What If?," "Dear, Bro!," and "Will You?," completing the eight original compositions presented throughout the evening.

Beyond presenting new music, the event also opened opportunities for these compositions to reach wider audiences.

Qualified record labels were invited to express interest in recording the songs, with selected labels given seven working days to negotiate agreements. The process includes provisions for a ₱50,000 recoupable royalty advance to composers and a commercial release within one year of signing. FILSCAP also hopes to establish the Master Camp as an annual regional initiative, with different Asian collective management organizations potentially hosting future editions.

My biggest takeaway from the evening? It really is possible to make global music. Seeing the results of collaborations between songwriters from different countries, cultures, and musical backgrounds made me appreciate the people behind the songs we love even more.

And while the eight compositions are only beginning their journey toward potential commercial releases, I'm genuinely excited to see where they end up.

Who knows? One of these songs might just become your next favorite.
